Reuse your translations creating translation memories

Translation memories are documents which store the correspondences between original texts in one language aligned to their translation to the other language. When you save your translations in translation memories you can reuse your work for future translations. Thus, when translating new content, you can get any previously translated sentence, which is a gain of time and consistency. If you also combine this tool with our machine translators for those sentences that are not in your memory, you will be gaining even more time for new translations.

In order to start to work today with this super-efficient methodology, we offer from Prompsit the possibility to create your memories from earlier translations you have saved. Once created, you can use them in combination with our translators in the section Translation of documents.

The format we propose for the creation of your memories is TMX (Translation Memory eXchange). This standard format is compatible with the most important tools in the market which support importing and exporting translation memories.

Start to create your memories now and to use them with our translators!

Apertium again in the Google Summer of Code

Apertium: Plataforma libre/de código fuente abierto para la traducción automática
By the third consecutive year, the free/open-source machine translation project Apertium has been selected to participate in the 2011 edition of the Google Summer of Code.

Google Summer of Code is a world-wide program that offers scholarships to students to make code in free/open-source projects. This year 175 projects such as Mozilla, KDE, Gnome, Debian, GCC, Gimp, Eclipse, Mono, LibreOffice, Perl or Wordpress have been selected .

Apertium is a free/open-source machine translation platform which offers automatic translators between a great number of languages, as well as the necessary tools to build, in a collaborative way, translators for new language pairs.

Apertium participated also in the 2009 and 2010 editions, where 9 students of all over the world received a scholarship by Google to work in the project. For this year edition, students can submit proposals from Monday 28th March until Friday 8th April 2011 through http://socghop.appspot.com/gsoc/org/show/google/gsoc2011/apertium.

The ideas list to improve or expand Apertium and do it more useful can be found at Apertium wiki ideas page.

Prompsit collaborates actively with this project giving administrative support and contributing ideas and mentors that will guide students to develop their proposals.

All the information is available at http://socghop.appspot.com/gsoc/org/show/google/gsoc2011/apertium.
